They are common, yes. But you have to look at how much damage you're actually going to prevent with SB or PS. In GvG these skills are great because spikes are coordinated and one person will often be taking hundreds of damage in the span of one or two seconds. This really doesn't happen in RA. If you're spending 10e to get only a couple procs from SB or to shave 20 damage off every fifth or sixth hit, you'd probably be better off just taking a different skill. SoA can handle melee and RoF works well against large damage packets like nukes. I've used both PS and SB in RA quite a bit, but the situations where I felt I was really getting a good return from them were few and far between.

How do you guys even begin to deal with hexes in these builds? Lately all I see is diversionators, Reaper's Mark Spammers, Spoil Victor spamming, etc. Holy Veil just doesn't cut it. Can't really go Divert Hexes in RA because there's still too much pressure from warriors and assassins and you have no idea what support (if any) you will have from teammates. CoP + vital boon helps with with hexes. I've been going back to a hex breaker build and having some success. What do you guys generally do to combat heavy hexes?

In RA i only bring Holy Veil (most of the time) because you wont find many hexes there. The few times you do run into a mesmer or necro that gives you or your team trouble, veil tends to be fine with a 12s recharge. Not fast enough to keep Spoil Victor or Reaper's Mark off permanently, but by then your team will hopefully get around to killing or shutting him down. In RA, I run a build identical to the one JYX posted and yes, I have trouble with teams of 2/3 hex characters, especially when you throw a shadow prison assassin or thumper/derv into the mix. I try to get the nastier hexes (removing one SV as it lands on a teammate helps a lot.) and keep the main targets pre-veiled (myself, most valuable dmg character, depending on what the other team is doing) Reapers Mark isn't a huge problem, ZB/GoH will take care of most of degen there. I'm interested in hearing the opinions of whether or not its worth it on a ZBprot monk (in RA(/TA)) to sacrifice self defense skills for improved utility (hex removal these days)

I agree with Effigy on Spirit Bond/Prot. Spirit. There aren't too many cases when RoF or SoA wont prevent more than half as much damage as SB/PS for half the cost. SF eles are common, yes...remove MarkofR if they have it, RoF and/or dismiss/mend condition also counter SF nicely.
In RA I believe you'll get a lot more mileage out of Gift then Spirit Bond.
